THE ULTIMATE PACKRAFTING EXPERIENCE NEW ZEALAND

Packrafting, “A Journey of Discovery”

What exactly is packrafting?

Packrafting is a mix between hiking & paddling. The incredibly durable boats weigh only 2.5kg and roll down to the size of a one man tent. Using packrafts we are able to access otherwise inaccessible wilderness areas and/or make trips into remote places a lot easier.

What fitness level is required?

Day trips require the ability to comfortably hike around 10km and paddle up to 20km, assisted by the current. Tracks are relatively easy and we paddle mostly downstream.

Multi-day trips are different as these are designed to be real wilderness adventures and therefore require a higher fitness level.

Do you run the trips in bad weather such as wind, rain, and snow?

All our trips are outdoor adventure trips and the weather plays a big roll in that. The only reason why we would cancel a trip is when we see a safety concern (waterlevels or group ability not suited for conditions)

Do I need to be able to swim ?

Yes, swimming ability is required! Different trips have different requirements – Please have a look in the trip section for details or if you are not sure simply send us an email or give us a call.

What is the max/min number of people on the trip?

Our trips are very unique and personal so we take a maximum of 6 people on one trip. For group trips of more than 6 people please email us for information.

How can I book and pay?

You can book and pay through our fast & secure booking system using credit card or paypal. We except Visa & Master card. You can also transfer the money directly into our bank account.

How far in advance do I need to book?

How far in advance you need to book is hard to say, but during the times in the year where we are very busy (Nov – Feb) it pays to pre-book.

For all the day trips 1-2 weeks advanced booking is usually enough.
For the multi-day trips, we recommend a minimum of 2-4 months as they may be cancelled as the dates approach if minimum numbers aren’t met.

Can I be picked up from accommodation?

Yes, we are happy to pick you up from where you are staying – just let us know at the time of the booking or when confirming your trip.

What shoes should I wear ?

All day trips require closed toe shoes (running shoes are fine), and yes, they will get wet!
For the multi-day trips you want to wear well worn in light hiking boots.

Can I bring my camera?

Yes yes yes! Please bring your camera but keep in mind we are going in and out of the water so some form of waterproofing (case, bag, etc) is recommended. Our guides will also have a camera along and will be taking pictures which we’ll share post trip on the website. You are always welcome to download/use our photos for free (unlike a lot of other tourism companies)!

Can I wear sunglasses/prescription glasses/contact lenses?

Wearing sunglasses on the water is can be pretty important as it protects your eyes from the glare and it looks cool on the pictures. If you’re worried about losing them some sort of a keeper strap might be a good idea!

What is the age min/max limit?

Our min. age limit for the multi-day trips is 18 years and for the day trips 14. There is no max age limit as long as you are fit enough! Our oldest customer so far was 74. Keep in mind that fitness is more important than age. If you’ve got someone who is keen to come on a trip and who you’re confident would do well but is outside these ages, please contact us to discuss your options.

What is the best way to contact you ?

Best way to contact us is through our email: [email protected]
You can also ring us 03 445 3080 but keep in mind the telephone might not be answered directly if we are out on the river, so leave your name, your number and a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

I’m vegetarian, can you cater for me?

We sure can, just let us know at the time of booking.

Our small team is passionate about what we do, the outdoors & packrafting and we would love to take you out with us on one of our journeys into the wild, discovering new possibilities and corners of New Zealand.
